One effective tool that can help safeguard your online browsing experience is the Microsoft Defender Browser Protection Chrome extension.

Stay Safe from Phishing Emails and Malicious Websites

Phishing emails and websites are designed to deceive users into revealing sensitive information or downloading harmful software. Microsoft Defender Browser Protection acts as a shield, continuously scanning links and websites to identify potential threats. It compares your browsing activity to a constantly updated list of known malicious URLs, ensuring that you are protected in real-time.

If you accidentally click on a malicious link or visit a website known for distributing malware, the extension will display a prominent red warning screen. This visual cue serves as a clear signal that the site is harmful, allowing you to navigate back to safety with just one click.

Microsoft Defender Browser Protection offers a range of powerful features to keep you safe while browsing the internet:

I guess it worked fine, until it didn't. Now it's flagging my AOL inbox repeatedly, closing the site and presenting a great big red warning. I have to keep going down to the bottom of the alert and select "Continue Anyway (not recommended)" Problem is, it's loaded by policy onto a work laptop and I can't switch it off or disable it. Big PITA right now.

Works Fine.

Blacklists some webpages i'm self-hosting in the cloud. Not sure why, pretty sure my pages are safe :) Would be nice to whitelist these manually on a local whitelist or something.

This BS installed itself without notifying me. I didn’t find out until my chrome was very slow, so I investigate, but it still can’t be deleted.

I didn't even know that I had this extension installed til I had a problem with it. I can't open ANY SINGLE web...All of the sudden, all of them are reported as unsafe. That can not be possible... I can't neither swicth it off or delete it. Result: I can't navigate at all using google chrome. If I use a different browser then I can. Obviously is not a problem of the website visited, but the extension.

I compared safe browsing apps. MS Defender compares your browsing to tables of known threat actors in realtime. Anonymously. Defender, on a Windows computer has very low overhead and if you are setup to automatically download and install via Windows Update it is always current. Google permanently logs all of your browsing, keyed to your Google email ID, if you add their Safe Browsing extension. Sounds like spyware to me.

I'm removing your extension effective immediately. Leave it to Microsoft to remove something from the most popular browser to make it exclusive to their browser to try to increase market share and make you a product.. I've seen this story regarding Microsoft played out for decades and they still haven't changed. I will never use Edge and this just hardened my resolve. If I were allowed negative 5 stars, you earned it. Oh well, thanks for gift wrapping me and sending me to Brave.

What does this confusing gibberish mean: Thank you for using Microsoft Defender Browser Protection! Developer support for this extension is complete and will be expiring soon. To continue receiving protection from Microsoft, open Microsoft Edge. Open Microsoft Edge

Gregory Mason

This extension told me to install Microsoft Edge.

This was a great additional layer of security, BUT, Microsoft is now using it to promote their clone of Chrome, called Edge. I think that is foul considering their Edge product is part of the same Chromium project. RIP Defender extension.
